# Bookhand > Bookkeeping by chat for small-business owners in Canada. Type what happened in plain words and Bookhand drafts the invoice, bill, expense or payment in QuickBooks Online. Nothing is saved until you say yes. Bookhand (bookhand.ca) is a web app for small-business owners in Canada who use QuickBooks Online and aren't comfortable with bookkeeping. You tell it what happened the way you'd text a friend, and it drafts the record in your own QuickBooks Online company. Every entry is a draft you can read, change or drop; it is saved only when you press the button to say yes. Bookhand is in early access, by invitation. ## What it does - Invoices, bills, expenses, customer payments, refunds and credit notes from plain words, typed or spoken, for example "Invoice Harbor Studio $2,400 for October, 15 days to pay" or "I spent $64 on printer ink". - Reads receipts and bills from a photo or PDF, drafts the expense or bill, and attaches the file in QuickBooks Online. - Adds the usual GST, HST or PST to invoices and asks when it isn't sure; shows how much of the bank is sales tax to set aside and when the GST/HST return is due. - A "Needs you" list of late invoices and bills coming due, with kind payment reminders (friendly first, firm only at the end, never threats). - Plain answers: what's safe to spend, how the month is going, who owes you money, why profit doesn't match the bank, CRA dates. - Asks before it guesses: likely duplicates, typos and big amounts get a question first. - Questions for your accountant can be saved and sent together at year end. - Several QuickBooks Online companies, on a computer or a phone (it can be added to the home screen). ## What it doesn't do - It never moves money: it doesn't pay bills, take payments or see bank logins. It only records. - It isn't an accountant and doesn't give accounting, tax or legal advice, and it doesn't file tax returns. - It isn't made by Intuit. QuickBooks is a trademark of Intuit Inc.; Bookhand works with QuickBooks Online and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Intuit. ## Price Early access is free. Early-access members keep a founding price of C$19 a month for life when Bookhand launches. ## Questions and answers ### What is Bookhand? Bookhand is bookkeeping by chat for small-business owners in Canada. You type or say what happened, like "invoice Harbor Studio $2,400 for October" or "I spent $64 on printer ink", and Bookhand drafts the invoice, bill, expense or payment in your QuickBooks Online company. Nothing is saved until you press the button to say yes. ### Do I need QuickBooks Online? Yes. Bookhand works with QuickBooks Online and keeps everything in your own QuickBooks company, so your books stay where they are. If you don't have QuickBooks yet, Bookhand explains which plan to pick. Bookhand is not made by Intuit and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Intuit. ### I don't know accounting. Can I still use it? Yes, that is who it is for. There are no menus, account codes or debits and credits. Each draft says in plain words what it will do and what it means, and Bookhand asks a question when something looks off, like a likely duplicate or a typo in an amount. ### Does Bookhand save anything without asking? No. Every entry starts as a draft you can read, change or drop. It goes into QuickBooks only when you press Save. ### Can Bookhand pay bills or move money? No. Bookhand only writes things down in your books. You pay and get paid the way you already do, and Bookhand never sees your bank login. ### Does it handle GST, HST and PST? Yes. Bookhand adds the usual sales tax for your business to each invoice and asks when it isn't sure. It also shows how much of your bank is sales tax to set aside and when your GST/HST return is due. It doesn't file returns for you. ### Can it read my receipts and bills? Yes. Snap a photo or drop in a PDF and Bookhand reads the supplier, date, amounts and tax, drafts the expense or bill, and attaches the file to it in QuickBooks once you say yes. ### Is Bookhand an accountant? No. Bookhand helps you keep records and explains your numbers in plain words, but it doesn't give accounting, tax or legal advice. When a question depends on your situation, it helps you save it for your accountant. ### What does it cost? Early access is free. Early-access members who stay on when Bookhand launches keep a founding price of C$19 a month for life. ### Does it work on my phone? Yes. Bookhand runs in your phone's browser and can be added to your home screen like an app. You can type, talk or take a photo of a receipt. ### Can I use it for more than one business? Yes. Connect each QuickBooks Online company and pick the one you're talking to. Handy if you keep the books for a few. ### What happens to my information? Your books stay in QuickBooks. Bookhand doesn't keep its own copy of them, and your chat isn't stored after each request is answered.
